Neighborhood Charter Schools are high performing, free and public schools. Opened in August 2012 in Harlem, NCS provides a rich, challenging K-8 program that cultivates the intellectual, social and emotional development of each child. We are proud of our fully inclusive program for autistic students who make up approximately 15% of our student body.

NCS: Harlem Principal
Chuck Jones
Chuck Jones is a transformative and equity-focused leader dedicated to igniting change within educational communities through the inspiring theme “Oh Harlem, the Places We’ll Go!” His mission is a “love letter to the neighborhood,” centered on building joyful belonging and ensuring students are seen, loved, and destined for greatness. This philosophy guided his successful tenure as a turnaround principal, where he drove a culture of college readiness that resulted in a remarkable 300-point surge in SAT scores. He measures success by the quality of every relationship, striving to get “1% better every day” and championing psychological safety as a foundation for academic courage. Chuck’s leadership is grounded in the essential mindsets of “ALWAYS TRY YOUR BEST, NEVER GIVE UP, EXCEL AND NEVER EQUAL and STUDY HARD, WORK HARD, REACH YOUR GOALS!, as he believes education is a transformative force and college readiness is a crucial pathway to the upward mobility and extended life expectancy that the families of Harlem deserve. He brings this unwavering commitment to excellence, community, and the rich legacy of Harlem to his new role.
